About the course

The Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner qualification embraces the wealth of experience of the Level 3 early years workforce, and challenges learners in both their daily practice and theoretical understanding. Upon achievement of the qualification, learners will be equipped as an advanced practitioner. The advanced practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the early years workforce.

The course is accredited by NCFE CACHE, who are the leading Awarding Organisation for the care sector. Full details on the diploma’s specification can be found here.


Entry Requirements

You must be aged 18 or over and must hold a full Level 3 early years / childcare qualification. You must be employed as an early years Level 3 practitioner. The course suits learners who are looking to develop leadership and specialist skills for use in their current role, or in preparation to take on a specialist role such as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or a Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator (PANCo).
It also suits learners who want to progress to further learning to take on a position of leadership within the setting.

All course materials are allocated to you on-line and therefore you must be able to use IT packages. You will need an internet connection and ability to use a word processing software (e.g. Word, Open Office) on your computing device.


Course Delivery

You do not need to take time away from your workplace to attend classes or workshops as we deliver this qualification through online learning. We use an award winning online teaching resource and e-portfolio system called Laser Learning, which your assessor will support you to use.


Learning Hours

The recommended guided learning hours for this qualification are 151 hours (these would include self-study).  Please consider how you will fit this commitment and level of study time in before embarking on this qualification.  You are expected to complete the qualification within 8 months.

You must achieve a pass in all 5 mandatory units of this qualification:

  • EYAP 1: Enabling children to learn
  • EYAP 2: Promoting health and well-being through physical activity and nutrition co-ordination (PANCo) in the early years
  • EYAP 3: Working with others to support children with additional needs, including Special Educational Needs and Disability
  • EYAP 4: Working with families and other professionals in early years settings
  • EYAP 5: Implementing change in an early years setting incorporating a small research project

Each of the mandatory units are made up from learning outcomes and each learning outcome is linked to a number of assessment criteria.


Progression

Upon achievement of this qualification, you could apply for the following roles:

  • SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
  • PANCO (Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator
  • Leadership, mentoring, supervision and management opportunities

You could progress to Level 5 qualifications such as the Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services. This qualification will also prepare you for study at a higher level, for example a Foundation Degree in Early Years.
